Folic Acid – What Is This Test?

The folic acid test is also recommended for people who are at risk of folic acid deficiencies. This includes those who follow an unbalanced diet, take certain medications (e.g., antiepileptic drugs), or abuse alcohol.

How to Prepare for a Folic Acid Test?

The results of the folic acid test largely depend on how you prepare for it. You should:

• Avoid drinking alcohol for 2-3 days before the test,

• Avoid eating for 8-12 hours before the test (you can drink water),

• Notify your doctor of any medications you are taking,

It is best to perform the folic acid test in the morning.
