Protein with antibacterial, antifungal, antiparasitic properties. It blocks the attachment sites of pathogens and inhibits their cellular receptors. It is produced by epithelial cells. It is present primarily in breast milk, but also in saliva, tears. Lactoferrin is a marker of the inflammatory process, it is part of the innate (non-specific) immune system, it is not a disease-specific parameter, but indicates the presence of ongoing inflammation. It activates the body's defence cells. Through its affinity for iron, it supplements iron deficiencies. It strengthens the organism and has an immunostimulating effect. In people with milk sugar intolerance - lactase - it facilitates the absorption of the enzyme that breaks down this sugar. Determination recommended in people with anaemia, immune deficiency, low iron levels, Crohn's disease. Increased levels are indicative of infection, chronic inflammation.
