M2-PK is not a tumor marker assigned to a specific organ. Therefore, only the combination of M2-PK with other markers such as CEA for colorectal cancer, CA 19-9 for pancreatic cancer, or CA 72-4 for stomach cancer significantly increases the detection of various types of cancer. Indications for testing include individuals at risk of developing colorectal cancer (familial polyposis), chronic inflammatory bowel diseases, a family history of cancer, poor dietary habits, obesity and lack of physical activity, smoking, and monitoring treatment effectiveness.
