Mammography for women with breast implants
Mammography is an imaging test that allows early detection of breast lumps. Breast implants reduce the sensitivity of mammography, so the examination in women with implants is slightly different than the standard.

Mammography
Mammography is a safe and non-invasive examination that allows for the assessment of individual breast structures and the detection of pathological changes. It is recommended that women over the age of 40 undergo preventive mammography screening (initially every 2 years, and after reaching the age of 50, annually).
Mammography in women with breast implants
Women with breast implants should regularly undergo mammography because they are at the same risk of developing cancer as women with natural breasts. Implants can make it difficult to visualize the breast gland properly, so additional imaging and different positioning of the breast are used. During the examination, the technician takes 8 pictures – 4 more than the standard procedure.
Examination procedure
The examination is performed with a special X-ray machine (mammogram). The patient, undressed from the waist up, stands in front of the machine. The examined breast, properly positioned by the technician, is compressed between the detector and a plastic compression plate. Mammography in women with breast implants takes about 20 minutes. The risk of implant rupture due to the pressure applied during the examination is very low.
