Pancreatic elastase

It is produced by the pancreas and secreted in an unchanged form. It is not digested and is an excellent parameter useful in assessing pancreatic exocrine function. Reference values for pancreatic elastase are >200 μg/g stool. If the elastase value is low, it means that pancreatic exocrine activity has decreased. Values below 100 µg/g indicate severe and advanced pancreatic insufficiency, while values from 100 µg/g to 200 µg/g indicate moderate pancreatic insufficiency.
