Clinical significance
Flu - an acute infectious disease caused by an RNA virus of the Orthomyxoviridae family. Depending on the structure of the nucleoproteid antigen, several typesóof the virus are distinguished: A, B, C. Type A is divided into subtypes depending on the properties of the antigene surface proteins: neuraminidase (N or NA) and hemagglutinin (H or HA). This type of virus is pathogenicóric for humans, other mammalsów and birdsów. The most common human illnesses are caused by subtypes: H1N1, H3N2, H1N2 and their variants resulting from point mutations. Infection can take the form of an epidemic or pandemic.Type B virus causes infections in humans only, often with a milder course. Type B virus infection can also be full-blown and take the form of an epidemic. Test for detection of the virus in a direct preparation.
