Hormone testing package scope
Estriadol
Estradiol plays an important role in maintaining normal bone structure and skin and hair physiology. Measurement of estradiol levels is used to assess ovarian function and monitor follicular development. Indications for the determination are: menstrual cycle disorders, pubertal disorders, monitoring drug-induced ovulation.
FSH test
Hormone produced in the anterior lobe of the pituitary gland. Elevated values are seen in women with primary ovarian failure. Decreased values in women are seen in secondary ovarian failure due to pituitary dysfunction, use of ovulation suppressants, use of sex steroids. FSH regulates estrogen production. Its disorders are reflected in conditions such as anxiety, depression, water retention, overweight, menstrual disorders. The test is usually performed in conjunction with evaluation of other hormones (LH, Estradiol, testosterone, progesterone).
LH test
Pituitary hormone, produced under the control of the hypothalamus. It is one of the primary sex hormones. It exhibits properties that stimulate the ovaries to produce hormones, mainly estradiol, and is subject to feedback. During the menopausal period, with the disappearance of ovarian function, the concentration of LH increases. Elevated values in women occur with polycystic ovaries or primary ovarian failure. Decreased values, with secondary ovarian failure. LH determinations, along with other sex hormones, are used in the diagnosis of causes of infertility and menstrual disorders.
Progesterone
Along with estrogen, it regulates the functions of the reproductive system during the monthly cycle. It is secreted by the corpus luteum and the placenta. Negligible amounts are secreted by the adrenal cortex and, in men, additionally by the testes. In the absence of fertilization, the corpus luteum disappears, progesterone production decreases and monthly bleeding occurs. In the case of implantation of a fertilized egg, the corpus luteum sustains its activity improving the conditions for maintaining pregnancy. Elevated values occur in cases of ovarian tumors, gestational hypertension, adrenogenital syndrome. Decreased values in ovulation disorders and ovarian malfunction.
Prolactin
Prolactin is a hormone produced in the pituitary gland. When concentrations are elevated, prolactin causes lactation (unilateral or bilateral), loss of menstruation, infertility in women, and impotence and hypogonadism in men.
