What the study consists of

In women, the test involves a gynecologist or midwife taking a swab from the vagina, cervix, urethra or follicles (ulcers) - if present. The collected material is placed in a tube with buffer and sent to the laboratory.

For men, the place where the swab is taken for testing depends on the type of test chosen. The most common place to collect the material for testing is the urethra or the genital groove. For HSV I / II testing, a swab should be taken from the vesicles or ulcers. For testing for Candida albicans, a mastoid swab is taken from under the foreskin.
