P/Bartonella quintana IgM antibodies
Clinical significance
Bartonella quintana causes a disease called trench fever (mainly affecting soldiers), transmitted by the clothes louse - Pediculus humanus. The disease manifests itself with high fever and loss of consciousness. Currently, it is detected mostly in homeless people and alcoholicsów in large urban areas and peopleów staying in refugee camps, where hygiene rules are not observed. The decisive criterion in the diagnosis of the disease are the results of serological tests - the search for antibodies in the serum of the patient. Among other things, antibodies of the IgM class are determined, whichóre specific for the Bartonella quintana species, disappearing after about 3 months from the onset of the disease.
