P/Saccharomyces cerevisiae ASCA antibodies (IIF)
Clinical significance
The determination of antibodies to Saccharomyces cerevisiae yeast (ASCA) finds application in the róight of Crohn's disease and ulcerative colitis. Both disease entities belong to the group of inflammatory bowel disease and are difficult to ródifferentiate, as they have similar symptoms. The use of ASCA and ANCA (perinuclear anti-neutrophil cytoplasmic antibodiesów) antibody assays allows for non-invasive diagnosis of both conditions. ASCA antibodies are characteristic of Crohn's disease, while ANCA antibodies are characteristic of ulcerative colitis. The presence of ASCA antibodies in the IgG and IgA classes in the serum allows the presence of the disease to be determined with almost 100% probability.
