Test description

P/Yersinia enterocolitica IgG antibodies

Clinical significance

Yersinia enterocolitica is a gram negative bacterium that causes zoonotic diseases in humans. It can be infected mainly by ingesting infected meat, milk, tofu or water contaminated with feces of infected animals. Yersiniosis can take different forms, the most common being pseudomembranous (purulent inflammation of the intestinal mesenteric nodes with symptoms resembling appendicitis) and intestinal (enteritis, inflammation of the small intestine and colon) forms. Less common are septicemic, arthritic and erythema nodosum forms. As a gastrointestinal infection, the disease is not dangerous, while the development of sepsis significantly increases mortality. IgG antibodies appear up to twoóch weeks after infection and disappear within a few months. A positive result indicates a recent infection.
