SARS CoV-2 rapid antigen test
The antigen test is a qualitative test that detects the presence of specific SARS-CoV-2 antigens in nasopharyngeal swabs, unlike PCR tests, which detect the genetic material of the virus in the test sample.
This is a very fast way to confirm infection - the waiting time for the result is 15-30 minutes, which is a clear advantage over PCR testing, for which the result is awaited for up to 24 hours, as it requires the use of specialized equipment.
The antigen test, according to WHO and CDC guidelines, can be used to diagnose infections in patients within the first 5-7 days after the onset of symptoms.
With an increase in infections in the population, it can also be used to test individuals without symptoms, such as before travel. Like RT-PCR and FRANKD (RT-LAMP) test results, the antigen test result is now recognized by the Chief Sanitary Inspector.
Antigen tests have a sensitivity of 96.52% (Roche), 93.3% (Abbot) and specificity of 99.68% (Roche), 99.4% (Abbot).
Note: After purchase, you must appear for the test during the hours of operation of the collection center of the selected Damian Medical Center facility.

Interpretation of antigen test results
The following interpretation applies to the results of a person with symptoms of SARS-CoV-2 coronavirus:
- + Positive result - as of 31/10/2020, detection of SARS-CoV-2 antigen in clinical material is treated as confirmation of a case of COVID-19 and is reported to the sanitary authorities. Isolation should be applied.
- - A negative result does not rule out infection with SARS-CoV-2 coronavirus. To confirm the result in a person with symptoms suggestive of COVID-19, a molecular RT-PCR test should be performed. Isolate until a negative genetic test result is received.
If the test was performed in a person who does not have symptoms of SARS-CoV-2 coronavirus, the results obtained should be interpreted individually by the medical professional who ordered the test.
If the test indicates an invalid result, it should be repeated immediately.
Antigen test in children
We also give the opportunity to test children (of any age). The test in children looks similar to that in adults. However, taking a swab in a child depends on the child's ability and cooperation during the collection.
