Duplex Doppler ultrasound of the arteries of the lower limbs is used to conduct the morphological and blood flow assessments in regard to the arteries of the lower limbs.
The indication for the examination is the assessment of:
- stenosis;
- obstruction;
- aneurysms;
- arteriovenous fistulas;
- dialysis access;
- vascular malformations.
Doppler ultrasound uses the Doppler effect to assess the speed and direction of blood flow in vessels. The ultrasonic waves directed at the blood cells flowing in the blood vessels change frequency in proportion to the speed of the blood flow.
