Vasoactive intestinal polypeptide (VIP) - a hormone secreted by the cells of the intestinal mucosa and pancreas and also in certain brain structures. It regulates the functioning of the digestive system The test is indicated when Verner-Morrison syndrome is suspected, which is a tumor of the pancreas that secretes VIP (VIPoma). Symptoms of VIPoma include severe diarrhea, dehydration, gastric acidity and cardiac arrhythmias and asthma.
