Zonulin

Elevated zonulin levels are found in patients with diseases in which the body fights its own cells. Additionally, zonulin increases in patients with untreated food allergies. Intestinal barrier damage is considered one of the causes and maintenance of inflammation in these patients. This substance test is recommended for frequent infections, colds, allergies, food intolerances, Hashimoto’s disease, joint problems (e.g., rheumatoid arthritis), autism, depression, skin problems, and irritable bowel syndrome. High zonulin levels in the body may indicate not only increased intestinal permeability but also an ongoing inflammatory process in the intestinal mucosa.
