Antigen Test for RSV – Test Description
The RSV antigen test is conducted to detect the virus's proteins in the collected sample. The test involves taking a throat and nasal swab using an immunochromatographic test.
RSV Test – Indications
You should perform the RSV antigen test if you notice symptoms of an upper respiratory tract infection similar to the flu (fever, runny nose, cough, loss of appetite, wheezing) or if you have had contact with an infected person.
The onset of symptoms lasts 4–6 days. The RSV antigen test can be performed as early as the first days of symptom onset. This is especially important for children under 5 years of age, seniors, and individuals with weakened immunity, for whom the RSV virus may lead to a severe infection and require hospitalization.
RSV Test – Preparation for the Test
The swab should be taken:
-
before starting antimicrobial treatment;
-
on an empty stomach or at least 4 hours after eating or drinking (except for water) – you should also refrain from smoking or chewing gum without oral hygiene (such as brushing teeth) before the test.
RSV Test – Procedure
A swab from the nasopharyngeal area is taken using a special swab. It is then placed in an extraction solution, which is applied to the test cassette. The RSV test takes a few minutes and is non-invasive and painless, though it may cause slight discomfort for some patients.
RSV Antigen – Test Results
The results of the RSV test are available within one day.

The price for the RSV test for both children and adults starts from 54 PLN. If you are a participant in the MediClub program, the price starts from 51 PLN. Sign up for the RSV test today!
