”Check Your Stress” Medical Package

Stress is the body's response to harmful environmental factors (stressors) that upset intrapersonal balance. Sometimes we do not associate the symptoms we experience with stress, and it may be the primary cause.

Chronic, long-term exposure to stressors deregulates the functioning of the endocrine and immune systems, leading to persistent inflammatory responses that result in dysfunction of multiple organs, such as the brain, heart, or liver. Chronic stress leads to high cholesterol, triglycerides, glucose, and elevated blood pressure, which increases the risk of cardiovascular diseases.

Blood tests can provide valuable information about your health. Stress reactivity can be measured by selected parameters, such as hormone levels such as TSH or cortisol, as well as biomarkers such as triglyceride or glucose levels.

Indications

The package is primarily recommended for individuals who want to monitor their health condition due to exposure to stress or those who are experiencing the effects of long-term stress, such as:

  • Lack of energy, chronic fatigue, irritability, difficulty concentrating, shortness of breath, palpitations, headaches
  • Headaches
  • Decreased immunity
  • Gastrointestinal problems that may be related to stress
  • Increased perspiration
  • Difficulty falling asleep

The package includes:

  • TSH (thyrotropic hormone) - assessment of the concentration of the hormone responsible for the regulation of the thyroid gland; the proper functioning of this gland is an important factor taken into account in mental well-being (especially in women).
  • Lipidogram (total cholesterol, LDL and HDL cholesterol and triglycerides) - analysis of the cholesterol fractions (HDL, LDL), total cholesterol and triglycerides allows to assess the risk of cardiovascular disease and metabolic syndrome; abnormal concentrations may also point to the risk of developing chronic stress, anxiety or depression.
  • Fasting glucose - measurement of blood glucose levels; chronic stress increases the risk of metabolic syndrome and, consequently, type 2 diabetes; secretion of cortisol (the so-called stress hormone) increases glucose levels and blood pressure.
  • Full blood count - quantitative and qualitative assessment of peripheral blood components, an indicator of overall health; chronic stress reduces the number of immune cells.
  • Vitamin D-25(OH)D - measurement of the concentration of the vitamin D3 fraction; vitamin D3 supports the immune system.
  • Ferritin - this test is used to diagnose anaemia caused by iron deficiency; low ferritin concentrations affect the mood negatively.
  • Total calcium - determination of the concentration of an element involved in many regulatory processes (secretion of hormones, enzymes, etc.).
  • Magnesium - this test is performed to determine the concentration of magnesium which is responsible for e.g. proper functioning of the nervous system.
  • Vitamin B12 - the test performed to detect anaemia, neuropathy and assess the nutritional status of the body; the deficiency of B vitamins can adversely affect the functioning of the nervous system.
  • Cortisol - considered to be a stress hormone; in stressful situations, its concentration increases due to an increase in the body's need for energy; it intensifies the effects of adrenaline, and inhibits TSH secretion.
  • Prolactin - the test is performed to determine the concentration of prolactin which is considered to be a biological marker of stress; this hormone plays a role in regulating the body's response to stress.

Benefits for the Patient

  • You will take care of your health, check important parameters and in case of abnormal results you will be able to start treatment quickly.
  • Thanks to a wide range of laboratory tests (up to 14), you will learn whether stress has affected the functioning of the body – especially the endocrine, immune and circulatory systems.
  • You will prevent further negative effects of long-term stress.
  • You will increase your chances of implementing measures to reduce complications associated with long-term stress.
  • You'll save your time - you'll get all the tests done at just one visit.

Preparation for the test

  • The test should be performed in the morning due to the diurnal rhythm of hormone secretion.
  • You should arrive to the medical centre on an empty stomach – the patient should not eat or drink anything other than water for 8-12 hours prior to blood collection.
  • In the morning the patient may have just one glass of water.
  • It is advisable to avoid strenuous exercise and alcohol consumption for 24 hours prior to the test.

Remember that you may need a medical consultation and further testing, as blood tests alone may not be able to diagnose the health problem you are experiencing.
