- Test description
The liver panel is performed for the differential diagnosis of Autoimmune hepatitis (AIH) types I and II, primary cholangitis (PBC). In AIH type I, the detected SLA/LP antibodies are detected, while in type II antibodies are present LKM-1 and/or LC-1. In contrast, in PBC, the most common antibodies are AMA M2. The test is performed by immunoblot which serves as a confirmation test; the result is the strength of the of binding of a given antigen on a scale from (-) to (+++). Due to the lack of 100% specificity of autoantibodies, in the diagnosis of autoimmune diseases, simultaneous determination of several antibodies (panel), which will provide greater diagnostic sensitivity diagnostic sensitivity than single determinations.
