Beta-defensins are defense factors against microorganisms residing on the skin and mucous membranes. They are an important part of the immune system, combating a wide range of bacteria, viruses, fungi, and toxins found on the intestinal mucosa.

Zonulin is a controlling protein that determines which substances enter our bloodstream through intestinal epithelial cells. Elevated zonulin levels indicate damage to the intestinal mucosa and increased permeability.
