Blood test package with home sample collection.

Who should take the Post-Pregnancy and Breastfeeding Women Package?

We recommend this package to all new mothers.

When to take tests after childbirth?

We recommend taking the package no earlier than 6 weeks after delivery. It is especially worth taking the package if:

  • you experienced gestational diabetes during pregnancy;
  • you feel apathetic, exhausted, and lacking energy;
  • you have anemia or low iron levels after childbirth.

Why is it worth taking the Post-Pregnancy and Breastfeeding Women Package at home?

A postnatal check-up is a very important moment for every mother. Postpartum tests allow you to check the condition of your body and whether anything is lacking. A few weeks after delivery, every mother should undergo check-ups to ensure her body is returning to normal. Pregnancy, childbirth, and breastfeeding place significant demands on the body. This burden and hormonal changes often result in fatigue, apathy, weakness, and possible deficiencies in essential vitamins and minerals necessary for proper functioning. After all, you want to have the energy to care for your new family member! Don’t blame yourself, though—pregnancy and childbirth are very taxing on the body and can lead to issues like iron deficiency. However, with the package, you can identify areas where your health could improve, perhaps through diet.
In addition, after pregnancy, it’s worth checking for deficiencies in vitamin B12, folic acid, or vitamin D. This is especially important during breastfeeding when your body’s demand for these nutrients increases. Detecting deficiencies may lead to the implementation of supplementation (although such decisions should always be made by a doctor).
Blood tests can also assist your doctor in examining the uterus, ovaries, cervix, breasts, and assessing your overall health after childbirth. These tests should take place between four and eight weeks after your baby’s birth, unless your doctor recommends an earlier appointment. In the case of a cesarean section, the check-up is recommended four weeks after delivery, while after a natural birth, it should occur at the end of the postpartum period, six to eight weeks after delivery.

Home blood collection is a great solution for a new mother like you! It eliminates the worry of finding someone to care for your baby, figuring out how to pack them into the car, or wondering if a visit to the clinic with an infant is too risky. Choose a convenient date, and a mobile medical professional will come to your home on the designated day. You also don’t have to worry about cleaning up— the specialist will bring everything necessary to ensure a hygienic procedure in your home environment.

How to prepare for the tests?

  • Remember to fast – have your last meal 12 hours before the scheduled test.
  • Do not change your dietary habits a few days before the test.
  • Plan to have the test done in the morning.
  • Get a good night’s sleep and come to the test relaxed.
  • Stay properly hydrated. Drink a glass of water half an hour before the test.
  • Avoid intense physical activity and do not drink alcohol the day before the test.
  • Avoid stress and do not smoke before the test.
  • Consult your doctor regarding any medications or supplements you are taking.

Full list of tests in the package:

  • Complete Blood Count (CBC)

This test examines red blood cells (erythrocytes), white blood cells (leukocytes), platelets (thrombocytes), hematocrit, and hemoglobin levels. The results can detect anemia, assess the degree of blood loss after hemorrhages, and evaluate bone marrow function.

  • Glucose

This test measures blood sugar levels and can detect the development of gestational diabetes. This test is particularly important, especially if the new mother had gestational diabetes during pregnancy.

  • Iron

A basic element whose deficiency contributes to anemia. It also affects cholesterol levels and the elimination of toxins from the liver. New mothers are particularly prone to iron deficiency.

  • Ferritin

A protein responsible for storing iron in the liver.

  • TSH

TSH controls thyroid hormone production and helps monitor underactive or overactive thyroid function. The thyroid gland produces hormones that regulate many processes in the body, including metabolism and the menstrual cycle. After childbirth, thyroid disorders, such as postpartum thyroiditis, can occur, so it’s essential to check your TSH levels.

  • Liver function tests (ALT, AST, ALP, BIL, GGTP)

These tests help detect issues with liver function and the bile ducts.

  • CRP (C-reactive protein), quantitative

An indicator of inflammation in the body, showing tissue damage caused by infections.

  • Electrolytes (Na, K)

Measuring these elements helps determine the body’s water-electrolyte balance. Electrolyte imbalances may indicate kidney or hormonal problems, making it important to monitor these levels after childbirth.

  • Creatinine

This test assesses kidney function. Healthy kidneys maintain the balance of water and minerals in the blood, so it's vital that they function properly.

  • Lipid panel (CHOL, HDL, non-HDL, LDL, TG)

This test assesses the levels of all cholesterol fractions and helps estimate the risk of cardiovascular diseases.

  • Total Calcium

This test helps assess the risk of problems with the digestive and skeletal systems, as well as potential kidney or heart issues.

  • Magnesium

An element that supports the nervous and digestive systems.

  • Vitamin B12

Involved in the production of red blood cells and ensures proper functioning of the nervous system, affecting memory and concentration.

  • Vitamin D metabolite 25(OH)

Essential for bone strength and other important bodily functions. The vitamin D metabolite 25(OH) also plays a role in immunity.

  • Folic acid

This test helps determine the cause of anemia and issues with the nervous and digestive systems.

Factors that may affect the results

  • Consumption of coffee or alcohol, excessive stress, and physical exertion
  • Time of day – the tests in the package follow daily norms, so schedule your appointment for the morning.
  • Certain medications or supplements may also affect test results – inform your doctor about any medications you’re taking for proper result interpretation.

Interpretation of post-pregnancy test results

The post-pregnancy test package helps assess thyroid, kidney, and liver function, as well as confirm or rule out any disorders related to carbohydrate metabolism, deficiencies of key elements, anemia, and inflammation in the body.

With the Package, you receive a free consultation of your results

During the consultation, your uPacjenta Health Advisor will:

  • thoroughly analyze your test results and explain the possible causes of any abnormalities;
  • suggest more detailed diagnostic tests if necessary;
  • advise on lifestyle changes to improve your health and well-being;
